Whistler Bike Park, chasing my perpetually airborne children, establishing the

Started competitive athletic career in 1978
with VOC (Vancouver Olympic Club) as a middle distance runner – track,
cross-country and road racing. Graduated UBC
(University of British Columbia) with a Chemical Engineering degree.
During my University years, I picked up competitive cycling as this was a
natural progression in endurance sports. Now I do the best I can to
balance all my passions – Family Life (2 kids – Justin (11) and
Kara (6) – including coaching soccer and hockey), Competitive Road
Cycling, and Career (Engineering Manager for Honeywell for 25 years).

early 1960s: numerous unorganized/disorganized neighbourhood sports…soccer, road hockey, football,
baseball, cricket, biking, tree climbing and terrorizing the neighbours…. The era before “play dates”,
parental control
and computer games.

late 60’s: dabbled in organized sports…..ice hockey, soccer,
gymnastics, archery, and then discovered a passion for a sport requiring minimal
skill; middle distance running

1980 – middle distance track and cross country running; member of the
Vancouver Olympic Track Club; did ok; got injured so took up triathlon and duathlons

1995- completed numerous triathlons and duathlons, often winning
or placing in my age category.
